Forestville / Mystery Cave State Park (Southeast MN). Forestville founded 1853, emerged as rural trade center. By 1858, the town had 100 inhabitants and 20 buildings including: two general stores, gristmill, brickyard, two hotels, school, & mechanics of several trades. It prospered until the railroad bypassed the town in 1868.
We were a few days early, the buildings and Cave didn't open till Memorial weekend.

Winona, MN - founded by a steamboat captain in 1851 is located on an island, Mississippi on one side and Winona Lake on the other. The town profited from the lumber industry and by 1900 claimed to have more millionaires per capita than any other place in the country. Town is surrounded by the Upper Mississippi National Wildlife and Fish Refuge.

Grace Watkins King Carriage late 1800's
Built by Columbus, Ohio Buggy Co and had "Cadillac / Mercedes" features:
- "Rockaway" type overhang roof for driver's comfort
- 6 beveled glass, adjustable windows
- Brass door handles
- Speaker tube to communicate w/driver
- Side-mounted coach lamps
- Rubber tires by Firestone
- Her initials on the door

We decided to cross the border into Wisconsin and view the Mississippi from the other side.

| When you see vehicles and people around an eatery it usually means it's good! Well the ice cream at Nelson Creamery was excellent. |
